DSO Spotlight: 42North Dental

Created for dentists, by dentists, 42North Dental supports over a dozen practice brands in more than 60 locations in the Northeast. The DSO, previously known as Gentle Dental Partners, changed their name to better reflect their model of partnering and growing alongside successful dentists. They are currently focused on partnering with dentists in Northeastern states.

The company understands and appreciates that while one may love dentistry, they are usually not as interested in the business management aspects of the practice. 42North takes care of all of the administrative headaches so that the supported dentist only has to focus on patient care.

42North Dental traces its roots to 1977, when Dr. Ronald Weissman opened Prosthodontic Associates in Brookline, Massachusetts. A year later, Dr. Samuel Shames founded Newbury Dental Associates in Boston. In 1980 they partnered with other local dentists to form an advertising cooperative. This, in turn, led to the first Gentle Dental office opening in Boston in 1980. The company picked up its growth through the 90s and passed the 50 supported office mark in 2015.

By focusing on a geographic area, 42North Dental is able to better support practices. This close collaboration between DSO and dentists led to such accolades as Boston Magazine naming 18 42North supported dentists “Top Dentist” in their inaugural issue. Supported practices also swept the Readers’ Choice awards, naming Gentle Dental Boston the #1 Dental Practice in Boston and with Gentle Dental Peabody being recognized by readers as the #1 Dental Practice on the North Shore.

It is the small yet meaningful things that sets 42North apart from others.
